7 Unique Valentine's Day Ideas from the Event Experts
Valentine’s Day is synonymous with classic rose bouquets and fancy dinners. BORING. How about something a bit more surprising? Here are a few ideas to make this year’s Valentine’s Day one to remember.
1. Go wine-blending
Some wineries offer custom wine-blending, which is a great way to get hands-on with your Valentine’s plans. A handful of winemakers offer blending experiences, so check with vineyards in your area to see if there’s an event near you. In the Seattle area, we recommend JM Cellars. Get a couple tickets for their special Valentine’s Day Blending Event.
2. Bring a chef home
Valentine’s Day is the busiest restaurant day of the year. Why fight the crowds when you can cozy up inside and have a chef create a romantic dinner just for you two? Make it a group date by inviting other friends. Think: high-end, romantic dinner party!
3. Serenade with a karaoke classic
Tell your special someone how much they mean to you by serenading them with a classic song. The best part about karaoke? No one expects you to sing like you’re Beyoncé or Justin Timberlake, in fact off-pitch vocals add charm to the experience. Here are a few perfect song choices:
Your Song (Elton John)
At Last (Etta James)
I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing (Aerosmith)
Fallin’ (Alicia Keys)
Making Memories of Us (Keith Urban)
4. Indulge in Erotic Food Art
For a Valentine’s Day unlike anything else, pair up with Seattle-based erotic food artist Tiberio Simone and photographer Matt Freedman. Tiberio started the La Figa Project, which creates breathtaking art out of food, using the body as the canvas. He exhibits at shows nationally, but will also book custom photo shoots that you can do with a partner. Boudoir photos are a thing of the past. Why not spice it up a little this year?
5. Create your own fragrance.
Not only is heading to a perfume blending bar a cool activity, but it’s also a long-lasting romantic memento. In the Seattle area, there’s a perfume blending bar just outside of the city in Port Angeles, which we see as the perfect opportunity to book a B&B and get away for a couple days.
6. Take a cooking class
When Harriet Van Horne wrote, “Cooking is like love. It should be entered into with abandon or not at all,” she knew what she was talking about. Little else is as romantic as preparing a delicious meal with your significant other—and even better when its under the guidance of a professional chef. Spots like Diane’s Market Kitchen offer the chance to cook your own meal and learn as you go.
7. Build a fort and watch movies
Last but definitely not least, let your inner-child out and build an old-fashioned pillow fort right in your own living room, paired with some of your favorite romantic movies. Pack a picnic – PB&Js are perfect for this. This idea is affordable, fun, and unexpected.
